I am booking my accommodation at the Novotel and they have asked for a copy of my Passport. Is this normal?

Yes, most international hotels require a copy of each guest’s passports to comply with their local tourism/immigration laws. If you are not comfortable with emailing this to the Novotel ahead of your stay simply advise them that they can take a copy of it upon check-in. They are generally very happy to do this.
