Short Term Missions Resources

‘Learn to do what is good. Seek Justice. Correct the oppressor. Defend the rights of the fatherless. Plead the widow’s cause.’ (Isaiah 1:17 HCSB)

We have some great resources to make your next Short-Term Missions (STM) trip effective...

We're passionate about STM as they play an important role in overseas missions and development. Yet for STM trips to contribute to positive impacts in overseas communities and long-term sustainable change they must be approached wisely and should always involve detailed planning. 'Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way’ (Proverbs 19:2 ESV). We hope that STM trips are just the beginning of a life of action and advocacy!

We have developed a Short-Term Missions Manual to help you plan your next STM trip. It promotes two different models of STM trips, which we believe are the most effective:

MODEL 1: Empowering Communities

Where a STM team gets involved in programs that preserve, strengthen and enhance the resilience of families and communities. This can include skills training, skills exchange or community development programs where teams support the community's empowerment process. It is incredible to witness a community's joy at achieving the goals they set for themselves.

MODEL 2: Learn, rather than do

Where the STM trip is all about learning, rather than doing. Trips focus on helping team members develop a holistic understanding of the issues of injustice that create poverty and vulnerability, with the purpose of inspiring long term action. Team members should return home with a greater knowledge and understanding of the real issues and are more likely to: be responsible and informed donors, raise awareness, advocate on behalf of the vulnerable, become long-term prayer partners, be inspired to volunteer in their own community, or even become effective missionaries in the future.

Short-Term Missions Manual:

STM-cover.pngThe Short-Term Missions Manual is a comprehensive resource which is essential to any church, team coordinator and sending or receiving organisation planning to go on a short-term missions trip.

It includes practical case studies and examples, the Biblical framework for protecting children, and a step-by-step guide for how teams can run effective and child-safe STM trips. There are also great resources, handouts and a toolkit to help you coordinate your trip (also see below).

If you're passionate about missions and engaging people in short-term teams, then this is for you!

These handouts can be found inside the STM Manual. They can be given to each of your team before they go on the trip to educate them on how they can have the greatest impact while overseas.
