Field Partner Nepal Update

Ashok, our partner on the field in Nepal, has just updated us on the current devastation that Nepal is facing in the aftermath of the earthquake. He shares that the Church buildings are full of people that have lost every thing, that many have been without food for 4 days and drinking water, and that clean drinking water, blankets and medicines are in short supply.

ACC International Relief has launched a Humanitarian Relief Appeal to assist those affected by the earthquake in Nepal. We will be working through our partners, such as Ashok & Romila to begin to launch a response to provide humanitarian assistance to many who are affected.

Dear ACC Churches.

The people of Nepal are suffering by the series of very powerful earthquakes in Nepal. It remained until for 72 hours. Most of the houses have been damaged and countless houses, temples, towers, office buildings, schools, collages, hospitals and historical monument palace have been fallen down. The effect has not been only in Kathmandu but whole nation has been affect by it. Until now there is no proper account of casualties. Above 6,000 dead bodies’ funeral have been done in Kathmandu within 2 days.

Both of our Church buildings in Kathmandu are damaged very badly. Some dear believers have been in the building collapsed. One our dear brother’s dead body is still under the collapsing of the 5 stories building. From 26th we are trying hard with the support of others to take that out but it has not been succeed yet. In some churches the whole church congregations have been in the collapsing of the church building. No one knows the casualties there for yet they are under the collapsed buildings.

Hundreds of thousands people became homeless and hopeless. Many children, youth, adult and old people suffering with earth quake horror, terror and depression. Children started becoming terror to come in the home rather they like to be out of home for whole night and days.

In Kathmandu valley, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kritipur whole districts destroyed. Now hundreds of thousands people are on the roadside whole day and nights. They are in scarcity of tents, foods, drinking water, medicines, blankets etc. Cities are full of dead bodies. There is no account of the injured people yet the number could be hundreds of thousands. We have seen that hospitals were full of dead bodies and hospital ground fully covered by injured people.

Church buildings are full of people those have lost every things. From past 4 days they have got no foods, no drinking water; they have no blankets and any medicines from past 4 days. Small children and old people began to suffer with disease and sickness there now. From today we are taking prompt action feeding them and providing them with emergency supplies. We will conduct these activities in those places and areas wherever they have taken shelters.

As the effect of earthquake our communication was cut off absolutely. We were out of contact with any one. We were not known how many people suffered in the neighbouring villages. From this evening I have been in touch with some church leaders of Dhading district, Nuwakot district, Kavre district, Makanpur district, Sindhu palchowk and Sindhuli district. I have got very sad information from there that in some district almost all houses collapsed and they have no idea how many people have been killed. From Dhading and Nuwakot I got report that no single Church building is in on condition. Most of the buildings have been collapsed. These were the regions where I spent my life preaching the gospel and establishing the churches. These regions were known in Nepal as one of the region where the large number of Christian people residing. We had more than 250 church building there but now all have been destroyed. We had done our every effort to construct those buildings but now all collapsed and broken off. When I heard this this evening by telephone from one of my faithful disciple I cried out before my wife and with prayerful heart she gaze at my face and gave me silent sympathy.

How horrible situation we have now here I can’t explain it in words. We all are in tears and all are in agonies.

My hearties request to you is please pray for us and join us in providing emergency supplies to the victims.

Looking forward yours prayers and prompt response!

Pastor Ashok Adhikari
